Plant Description

Shrub or small tree armed or not; leaves alternate, petiolate, up to 15 x 6 cm, oblong, 3 nerved at the base, acuminate apex, entire margins, glabrous above, pubescent on nerves beneath; petioles short, densely hairy; flowers ebracteate, white in axillary umbels; peduncles short; pedicels woolly, jointed at the top; calyx tube adnate to ovary, densely silky pubescent outside; minutely toothed; petals 5-10, dull white, linear-oblong, glabrous, valvate; stamens twice as many as the petals or more; filaments hairy, anthers oblong; ovary 1 celled, style very long, cylindric glabrous, persistent; stigma large, subglobose or capitate; fruits sub globose, 1-seeded, purplish-red, up to 2 cm long, tomentose, crowned by persistent calyx; seed oblong, brown.
