Plant Description
Erect, small, much branched shrub, trunk of the plant reaching in thickness of about men`s leg, branchlets striate, pubescent, thinly coated with grey adpressed hairs at first, soon become glabrescent; leaves shortly petioled, imparipinnate, leaflets 13-17, subcoriaceous, opposite, elliptic-oblong, base obtuse, margins entire, apex truncate-mucronate, stepellae very minute; flowers in axillary, long racemes, pedicels short, moderately close; bracts exceeding the buds, usually boat shaped, acuminate, caducous; calyx silky brown, teeth unequal, deltoid; corolla bright-red, the largest of all species, standard about 2 cm, reflexed in expanded flower, standard obovate, keel straight, not rostrate, spurred on each side near the base; stamens diadelphous (9+1); anthers uniform, apiculate; ovary sessile, many ovuled; style short, incurved, stigma terminal, capitate pods linear, straight, turgid, glabrescent, 8-12 seeded; seeds black, globose. |
