Small, bushy, unarmed, nearly glabrous, resinous shrub; leaves shortly petioled, obovate, base obtuse, coriaceous, glabrous, sometimes puberculous beneath, nerves 15-20 pairs, stipules connate, truncate or mucronate; flowers white, scented, on short peduncles or sessile; calyx tubular, pubescent, teeth narrow, stout, ovate, acute; corolla white, turning to yellow, glabrous or pubescent; lobes 5, oblong, obtuse; stamens as many as corolla lobes, epipetalous, anthers sessile or subsessile, linear, included, inserted in the corolla tube; ovary 1-celled, ovules many on 4-5 parietal placentas; style stout; stigma clavate; fruits oblong with a stout beak, smooth or with numerous ribs, pericarp thin; seeds large compressed. |
