Evergreen shrub or small tree, much branched, pubescent; leaves elliptic-oblong, coriaceous, rounded or cordate at base, apex obtuse to acute; petioles very short; stipules short, cuspidate; lower bracts stipuliform, upper ones and bractioles minute, not sheathing; flowers white, fragrant, small, numerous in sub-globose clusters, in sessile cymes of about 5-15 cm, sessile or shortly pedicelled; calyx 4-toothed, teeth very short, triangular, obtuse; corolla tube very long, slender, lobes-4, ovate, obtuse, glabrous, spreading, twisted in bud; stamens-4, on the mouth of corolla, filaments very short or absent, anthers slender or linear, often mucronate; ovary 2-celled, ovule solitary, peltate attached to the septum in each cell; style filiform, very pubescent; stigma fusiform or subcapitate; fruits drupe, globose with 2 plano-convex or ventrally concave pyrenes, red at maturity; seeds flattened. |
