Large, evergreen, much branched shrub or small tree, branchlets angular, glabrous, bark dark-brown; leaves opposite or whorled, elliptic-oblong, base cuneate, margin entire, tip obtuse, glabrous on both sides, short petioled; stipules interpetiolar, broadly ovate, cuspidate; flowers greenish yellow in axillary, branched, pubescent cymes, slightly fragrant; bracts and bracteoles minute, lanceolate or subulate; not sheathing; calyx tube short, teeth-4, very short, obtuse; corolla glabrous, tube short, stout, lobes-4, oblong, obtuse; stamens 4, inserted on mouth of corolla; filaments short, slender, anthers often mucronate; ovary 2-celled, ovules solitary, peltate, attached to the septum in each cell; style slender, stigma, fusiform; drupe red, globose with 2 plano-convex or ventrally concave pyrenes; seeds flattened. |
