Perennial, much branched shrub; stem angled; leaves opposite or in whorls of 3, subsessile, elliptic-lanceolate, simple, entire, acuminate or obtuse, leathery; stipules interpetiolar, triangular, entire, usually persistent, sometimes caducous; inflorescence many flowered terminal or axillary, in paniculate cymes; flowers small, sessile to pedicellate, pentamerous, bisexual, orange with yellow centre, calyx of 4-5, subequal small, persistent lobes; corolla tubular or salver shaped with slender tube thickened, annular ring at the throat, inner side glabrous or hairy, petals 4-5, imbricate in bud; stamens 4-5, epipetalous, inserted at the mouth of corolla tube, included, filaments unequal, anthers oblong, versatile; ovary 2-3 locular, ovules many on small, globose, axile placenta, style filiform, stigma capitate or bilobed; capsule globose, dehiscence loculicidal, valves many seeded, papery or woody; seeds numerous, minute, usually discoid, winged. |
