Diffused or prostrate herb, branches quadrangular, hispid; leaves subsessile, obovate, oblong or elliptic, rounded or obtuse at the apex, rigidly coriaceous, pale when dry, usually scabrid above, margins often thickened and cartilaginous; stipules cupular, membranous, hispid, bristly; inflorescence axillary, sessile, few flowered clusters; bracts lanceolate-subulate, hyaline; bracteoles almost equaling the calyx, filiform; calyx campanulate, hispid, tube narrow; teeth 4.5, as long as the tube, linear-lanceolate, acute, reflexed; corolla whitish purple, funnel shaped, lobes 4-5, oblong, acute, a ring of hair at the base within; stamens 4-5, filaments very short, anthers oblong or linear; ovary 2-celled, stigma 2 lobed, subglobose, style filiform with 2-short arms; capsule ellipsoid, hispid, rounded at the base, crowned with the calyx teeth, one mericarp dehiscing ventrally; seeds 2, ellipsoid, dark brown. |
