Small, evergreen tree or large shrub; leaves shortly petioled, opposite, simple, entire, broadly ovate, caudate or suborbicular, acute or acuminate, apex, glossy above, 6-8 pair of oblique nerves; stipules long, oblong, caducous; flowers in globose head of about 2 cm across, pale yellow or creamy white, usually solitary, shortly peduncled with a pair of linear-oblong leaves or 2-small, membranous, caducous bracts at the base; bracteoles paleaceous; calyx tube very short, obconic, limbs cupular or tubular, entire, truncate or 5-toothed; corolla funnel shaped, tube long, throat hairy or glabrous, lobes-5, short, valvate; stamens 5, on the throat of corolla tube, anthers dorsifixed, filaments short; ovary 2-celled, style filiform, stigma capitate or mitiform; ovules on pendulous placenta; fruit globose head of capsules, each with 2-follicular, dehiscent cocci, many seeded; seeds small, flattened, winged. |
