Erect, perennial shrub with delicate, herbaceous; stem, sparsely branched, grooved; leaves usually opposite, rarely alternate, ovate-elliptic, margins more or less crenate or toothed; heads heterogamous, usually solitary, terminal on peduncles; involucre bracts many seriate; outer smaller, inner ovate, foliaceous; ray florets many seriate, ligulate, female, fertile in many colours; disk florets yellow, bisexual, fertile, tubular; achenes black ovoid or obconic, compressed not beaked; pappus absent.
