Annual, erect, softly pubescent herb; stem much branched, ascending, grooved, leaves sessile, linear-oblong or obovate, coarsely and irregularly toothed, white appressed below, tips obtuse or apiculate, minutely scabrous above; heads yellow, small, homogamous, solitary, terminal, leaf opposed; penducles elongate, slender, furnished with a few scattered linear bracts; involucres hemispheric or obconic; bracts in few series, herbaceous, lanceolate, acuminate, narrow, awned, ligules equaling or exceeding the bracts; outer florets female, 1-2 seriate, ligules narrow or minute; disk florets bisexual, fertile, slender, limb elongate, shortly 5-fid; receptacle flat or subconvex, pitted; stamens 5, epipetalous, syngenecious, anthers sagitate; anther base sagitate, tails capillary simple or branched; ovary 1-celled, 1-ovuled, solitary, basal, obtuse, style arms elongate, obtuse; style arms linear, obtuse; achenes terete or ribbed, pappus double, outer scales short, laciniate or with jagged teeth, inner smooth, scabrid or bearded, white or reddish, twice as long as the glabrate achenes. |
