Annual or perennial, erect, woolly herb or undershrub; leaves alternate, sessile, simple, radical ones narrowly obovate or spathulate; cauline leaves narrowly oblong or oblanceolate, acute at apex, scabrid hairy above, pubescent below; heads yellow in dense unilateral, recurved, axillary racemes, forming a pyramidal panicle; involucral bracts 2-seriate, linear, outer longer than inner with scarious margins; ray florets female, ligulate; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 5-lobed; stamens 5, epipetalous, syngenecious, anthers sagitate; ovary 1-celled, 1-ovuled, solitary, basal, obtuse, style arms flattened tips; achenes oblong, subterete or angled, 8-12 ribbed; pappus hairy, 1-2 seriate, slender, scabrid, white.
