Herb or undershrub, procumbent or ascending, scabrid or glabrous, rooting at the lower nodes; leaves opposite, subsessile, oblong or oblanceolate, invariably lobed, acute or apiculate at apex, margins irregularly subcrenate, scaberulous, 1-3 nerved; head heterogamous, yellow, solitary on long, slender peduncle; involucral bracts 2-seriate, herbaceous, oblong, obtuse, pubescent, much larger than disk florets, inner dry; receptacle flat or convex; ray florets female, fertile, 8-12 in 1-series, ligulate, spreading, 2-3 lobed; disk florets many, bisexual, tubular, limb elongate, 5-lobed, inner sterile; stamens 5, epipetalous, syngenecious, anthers sagitate; ovary 1-celled, 1-ovuled, solitary, basal, obtuse; achenes cuneate-oblong, thick, smooth or tubercled, laterally compressed, achenes of ray florets 3-quetrous, tip truncate; pappus absent or of short scales forming a ring or membranous cup.
