Annual, sparsely branched herb; leaves opposite, coriaceous, ovate or elliptic, acute or subacuminate at apex, subcordate, stem clasping at base, margins entire, hispid on both surfaces; heads large, terminal, heterogamous, long hollow peduncled; involucral bracts many seriate, bracts large, orbicular, herbaceous, outer ones smaller than inner; receptacle flat or convex; ray florets female, fertile, ligulate, 2-3 toothed, pink or in many colours; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, 5-lobed, usually yellow; stamens 5, epipetalous, syngenecious, anthers sagitate; ovary 1-celled, 1-ovuled, solitary, basal, obtuse; achenes obovate, compressed, glabrous, rugose, brown; pappus absent.
