Perennial, evergreen bush, branches suberect or slightly scandant; spines, simple or forked, straight, up to 2.5 cm long; leaves broadly ovate or elliptic, acute, acuminate or apiculate at apex, rounded at base, nerves few to many, shining above; inflorescence terminal or axillary, often branched, pubescent, sessile or shortly pedunculate cymes; calyx divided almost up to base, 5-segments; corolla about 2-3 cm as long as the tube, lobes-5, oblong-lanceolate, sparsely pubescent; stamens-5, epipetalous, included, anthers lanceolate, base rounded; ovary 2-celled, 4 ovuled, style filiform, stigma fusiform or columnar; berries ellipsoid or subglobose, dark purple when ripe; seeds usually 2.
