Plant Description

Annual climber, about 2-5 m long, stem subscandent, sparsely hirsute, slender, twining; leaves 5-10 cm, alternate, ovate to cordate, entire or 3-lobed, acuminate, cordate at base; petioles 5-10 cm long; flowers 1-5 in axillary cymes; peduncles usually shorter than petioles; pedicles short; sepals-5, linear to elliptic, subequal, very hirsute at base; corolla scarlet red to reddish yellow, 5 lobed; tube narrow, long, limbs short, hypocrateriform; stamens-5, exserted, filaments filiform, anthers oblong, not twisted; ovary usually 3-locular, ovules 6, style longer than stamens, stigma capitate; capsules ovoid or subglobose, smooth, 3-valved, 6-4 seeded; seeds pyriform, densely furred, dark brown.
