Annual or perennial climber; stems slender, twining, densely or sparsely pubescent; leaves alternate, about 8X12 cm, ovate, base cordate, apex acuminate, 3-lobed; petioles 5-10 cm long, slender; flowers 1-5 in axillary cymes; peduncles hispid, about 5-8 cm long, equal to, rarely longer than petioles; pedicels short; bracts linear, very close to calyx; sepals narrowly linear or lanceolate, densely hirsute at the base; petals blue-purple, about 3-5 cm long, funnel shaped, darker in the center; stamens 5, included, anthers not twisted, filament hairy at base; ovary 2 locular, style long, stigma capitate; capsule subglobous; seeds black, pyriform, velvety pubescent.
