Small, annual herb; rootstock woody, giving off numerous, prostrate, elongate branches; glabrous or pubescent; leaves alternate, linear or lanceolate to oblong, hastate at base, lobes sub emarginate, mucronate; petioles short; flowers axillary on filiform puduncles, about 1 cm long; bracts minute, persistent; pedicels longer than petioles; sepals-5, free, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate; corolla yellow, white purplish or creamy with purple centre, campanulate, 5-plaited; stamens-5, epipetalous, filament almost equal, glabrous at base; ovary glabrous, 2-3 locular, 4-5 ovuled; style filiform; stigmas globose or 2-lobed, included; capsules globose-ovoid, papery, 2-celled; seeds 2-4, smooth, black, glabrous.
