Plant Description

Annual erect, much branched hispid-pilose herb; leaves simple, opposite, sessile or sub-sessile, obovate or spathulate, obtuse at apex, cuneate at base, appressed hairy on both surfaces; heads heterogamous, solitary, axillary between forks of branches, prickly, short peduncled; receptacle convex, involucral bracts 2 seriate; outer bracts foliaceous, elliptic or ovate, hispid, longer; inner bracts linear, completely enveloping the ray achenes; ray florets ligulate, yellow, disk florets tubular, 5 lobed; anther base rounded; style of bisexual flowers undivided, puberulouse; achenes of 1 cm, compressed 5-10 together with few lateral, hooked spinules and 2 large, straight or usually uncinate prickles; pappus absent.
