Annual, erect herb, sparingly pubescent, much branched, somewhat angular stem; leaves ovate-oblong, sinuate, toothed or lobed, narrowed at both ends, pubescent on margins and veins on both surface; flowers in extra-axillary, subumbellate, 3-8 flowered, pedulous cymes, peduncles appressed hairy; pedicels short; calyx pubescent, lobes-5, ovate-oblong, saucer shaped, subobtuse often obscure or enlarged in fruit; corolla white, divided more than half way down, lobes oblong nearly glabrous outside; stamens 5, adnate at the throat of corolla, filaments very short; hairy, anthers yellow, notched at apex, dehiscing by apical pore; ovary globose, glabrous, 2-celled, style hairy towards the base, stigma small, capitate or bifid; berries small, globose, 6-8 mm across, dark purple, red or black at maturity; seeds ovoid, yellowish, pitted. |
