Perennial shrub, much branched; stems terete, violet-brown, glabrous or finely pubescent near the tips; leaves opposite, lanceolate, cuneate at base, subsinuate, acute, glabrous; flowers on short peduncles, axillary spikes or terminal panicles; bracts large, 1-3 flowered, violet; bracts ovate, acute, minutely pubescent, with hairy network of white and green nerves; bracteoles almost similar to bracts, small or absent; calyx 5-partite up to the base, violet-green, sepals narrow, linear-lanceolate, acute, almost equal, minutely pubescent; corolla white with purple or rosy blotches; 2-lipped, tube pale purple, limbs short; stamens-4, didynamous, adnate at the throat of corolla, exserted, filaments glabrous, anthers oblong, muticous; ovary 2-celled, ovules-2 in each locule; style filiform; stigma minutely bifid; capsule stout, clavate, pubescent, 4-seeded; seeds ovoid, somewhat compressed, densely rugose but gradually become smooth when ripe. |
