Plant Description

Herbs annual, suberect or diffused; stem often rooting at lower nodes; branches zigzag, hairy; leaves elliptic or lanceolate, hairy or glabrate, obtuse or acute at both ends; flowers in terminal, cylindric, densely hirsute, 2-6 cm long spikes; bracts-bracteoles linear-lanceolate, acute, pubescent; calyx 4-partite, sepals sublinear or lanceolate, acute, hairy along the whole length, shorter than bracts-bracteoles; corolla pink or pale violet, pubescent outside, upper lip broadly ovate, notched above, lower shortly 3 lobed, tube as long as the limb; stamens 2, filaments often dilated, glabrous or hairy near the base, anther 2 celled, lower cell with a white basal appendage; ovary 2-locular, ovule-2 in each locule, style filiform, stigma minutely 2-fid; capsule 4-seeded, pubescent all over; seeds suborbicalar, more or less compressed, glochidiate.
