Plant Description

Perennial, procumbent herbs; branches spreading, 4-angled, puberulous or slightly pubescent; leaves sessile, linear-oblong, lineolate above, minutely scabrid pubescent on the nerves beneath or below, glabrous; flowers in globose heads, borne in the lower part of leafly branch; bracts ovate, spine-tipped, rigid in fruit; bracteoles membranous, spine-tipped, pubescent; calyx 4-partite, sepals unequal, one bifid, oblong, obtuse, mucronate; corolla 2-lipped, violet or pink with brown-purple spots, densely hairy in bud; stamens-4, didynamous, glabrous, anther cells-2, one slightly above the other, papilose-ciliate; ovary glabrous, 2-4 ovuled, style slender, stigma capitate, entire; capsules ovoid, grooved, glabrous; seeds densely covered with hygroscopic hairs.
