Evergreen undershrub, 1-2 m tall; stem, much branched, woody, 4-angled, villous; leaves opposite, simple, lanceolate; flowers in upright, lax spikes; peduncles short, pubescent; flower white, 2-lipped, narrow; bracts overlapping, bright yellow; calyx 5-partite, pale green, finely pubescent; corolla yellow, tube 1.8-2 cm long; stamens 2, scarsely exserted, inserted in the upper half of the corlla tube, filaments glabrous or hairy near the base, anthers 1-celled, narrowly oblong, spurred at the base; ovary 2-4 celled, 4-ovuled, style filiform, stigma simple or slightly bilobed; capsules oblong, apiculate, densely pubescent, 4-seeded; seeds compressed, muricate, shining.
