Plant Description

Shrub, pubescent throughout; leaves opposite, 5-15 cm long, broadly ovate, acute-acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, margins irregularly dentate, softly hairy above, villous or coriaceous beneath; petioles 2-8 cm long; flowers fragrant, white with pink tinge in compact, corymbose, peduncled panicles; bracts foliaceous, prominent; calyx 5 partite, divided more than halfway down, sepals linear, acute, shortly pubescent, reddish purple, often enlarged in fruits; corolla pinkish-white, hypocrateriform, pubescent, tube 2-3 cm long, thick, lobes elliptic, as long as the tube; stamens-4, didynamous, slightly or not exserted, anther cells parallel; ovary imperfectly 4-celled, 4-ovuled; fruits drupaceous, bluish-black.
