Straggling much branched, rambling, scabrid pubescent shrub; stem 4-angled with recurved or hooked prickles; leaves opposite, decussate, ovate-oblong, crenulate or serrate, acute to acuminate, subcordate at base, pubescent on both sides, lateral nerves 6 pairs, prominent beneath; flowers in capitate spikes, outer pink-red, inner yellow; bracts inconspicuous, ovate or linear; calyx small, 2-lipped, glabrescent inside, pubescent outside; corolla yellow, pink or orange, petals spreading, lobes 4-5, subequal, tube slender; stamens 4, didynamous, included, anthers broadly oblong; ovary 2-celled, 2-ovuled, style short, stigma subcapitate; drupes, globose, fleshy, dark-blue, shining. |
