Plant Description
Evergreen tree upto 10-15 m high; leaves alternate, elliptic-lanceolate, rhomboid at base, entire and undulate, shortly acuminate, glabrous, latex milky; flowers solitary or in axillary fascicles, fragrant; pedicels rusty, pubescent; calyx lobes 6-8, biseriate, outer series valvate in bud including inner imbricated rusty; corolla lobes 16-20 in 2-3 series, creamy white, narrow-lanceolate, slightly exceeding the calyx; stamens 8, alternating with densely hairy staminodes pilose, acute, serrate or subentire; ovary 6-8 celled, oblong-globose, villous, style columnar, stigma minutely fimbriate; berries 1-seeded ovoid, fleshy, turns red at maturity; seeds usually single, ovoid, compressed, brown. |
