Tall tree, densely branching at the top; leaves imparipinnate, leaflets 9-15, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate at apex, rounded at base, entire, puberulous along veins beneath, shortly petiolate; flowers many in dense, erect racemes, borne on short pedicels and stout peduncles, articulated at the base, calyx golden yellow to brown, velutinous, glabrous inside; corolla bright red, scarlet or reddish orange, campanulate, lobes spreading, crimpled, deltoid, glandular; stamens 4, subequal, not exserted, unequally inserted near the base of swollen part of corolla tube, anthers large, 2-celled, staminodes small, filaments glabrous; disc annular, shallow-lobes; ovary ovate-oblong, pubescent, papillose, 2-celled, style glabrous, stigma 2-lamellate; capsules brown-black, oblong-lanceolate, erect, flattened parallel to the septum, loculicidally 2, boat, shaped valves; seeds numerous, winged all round except at base. |
