Small, erect, glabrous shrub with a white or pale bark, rarely lenticillate; leaves 3-7 in each whorl, lanceolate, apex acute to acuminate, base tapering gradually into petiole, pale beneath, nerves 8-12 pairs; flowers white in terminal or lateral, corymbose cymes; peduncles alternating with terminal leaves; pedicels short, red; bracts small, triangular, acute; calyx bright red, segments-5, lanceolate, eglandular; corolla salver shaped, 5-lobed, elliptic or oblong, obtuse, smaller than tube, tube slender, inflated above the middle, throat usually hairy within; stamens inserted at above or middle of corolla tube, included, anthers acute, free from stigma; ovary of 2-carpels, distinct or connate, style filiform, ovules-2; stigma calyptrifrom; disc membranous, slightly lobed; drupes single or didymous, obliquely ovoid, dark purple when ripe. |
