Annual herb, erect or ascending, glabrous, usually much branched, 1 m high; leaves broadly ovate or elliptic to lanceolate, emarginate or obtuse apex, shortly cuneate to attenuate at base; crowded in lower axils, petioles up to 8 cm long; flowers in more or less long spikes, clustered, axillary; male and female flowers interminxed; bracts deltoid-ovate; awned at apex, broadest near the base; tepals-3, sepaloid, awned, subulate, acuminate, greenish, membranous as long as or shorter than urticles; stamens 3, filaments as long as tepals; ovary-1, ovoid, ovule solitary, erect, styles distinct; utricles ovoid with a abroad seedless top, indehiscent; seeds lenticular, 1-1.5 mm, black or brown shining.
