Annual, erect or prostrate, small herbs, densely pubescent, become glabrescent with age; leaves narrow, oblong, elliptic or oblanceolate, obtuse or subacute at apex, narrowed to a poorly demarcated petiole at base, with long, white hairs on margins and beneath; flowers small, white, in dense, cylindrical or ovoid, terminal or axillary spikes, subtended by two smaller leaves; bracts deltoid-ovate; bracteoles, murcronate; tepals-5, narrowly lanceolate; outer 3 more or less flat, inner 2 sigmoid, slightly longer than the outer, densely clothed with white wool in the lower half outside; stamens-5, monadelphous, ; filaments connate into 5 toothed, stamina tube shorter than perianth, staminodes absent; ovary globose or subglobose, ovule-1, pedulous, sytle short, stigma bilobed; urticles pyriform, beaked, indehiscent; seeds notched on one side, brown, shining. |
