Annual, erect, shallow rooted herb; stem succulent, glabrous, pellucid dotted (translucent); leaves alternate, exstipulate, glabrous, fleshy, heart shaped to ovate-deltoid, acute or acuminate at apex, entire, pellucid-punctate, 5-7 nerved from the base, petioles upto 1.5 cm long; flowers minute, sessile, bisexual, bracteate in terminal, leaf opposed up to 5 cm long spikes; perianth absent; stamens 2, filaments very short, anther cells confluent; ovary 1-celled, ovule solitary, erect, style short, stigma lateral or terminal, usually penicillate; fruit minute, berry or nutlet, inhehiscent, dry; seeds minute, globose.
