Perennial, large, dioecious climber; stem branched, stout, glabrous, coriaceous, compressed when dry; leaves large, alternate, ovate, oblong or broadly ovate, cordate at base, acute to acuminate at apex, coriaceous, basal nerves 5-9 with 2 lateral nerves prominent; male flowers in narrow, reddish yellow, cylindric, fleshy spikes; flowers minute; bracts pellate, adnate to rachis; perianth absent; stamens 1-4, anthers 2-celled; female flowers long peduncled, pendulous; ovary 1-celled, style conic, beaked, stigmas 2-5, ovule solitary; berries ovoid or globose, immersed in rachis, fleshy, not produced. |
