Plant Description

Moderate sized tree, shoots white, pubescent, odorous; leaves alternate, lanceolate, ovate, acute at apex, rounded or cuneate at base, penninerved, grey pubescent, especially on the lower surface, secondary nerves 7-10, reaching up to margin; petiole slender, tomentose; peduncle grey-pubescent; pedicels sometimes thickened; flowers in axillary, many flowered umbellate corymbs or racemes; involucral bracts-4-6, rarely more, concave, coriaceous or membranous; perianth campanulate tube, very short, lobes-4-6, equal or unequal; stamens 20 in 4 bundles, anthers 4-celled, filaments glandular or eglandular, villous; ovary enclosed by perianth tube, style thick, stigma peltate or 2-lobed; fruits drupe or succulent berry, seated on enlarged, cupular, perianth tube purple when ripe.
