Plant Description

Robust oak like tree with greyish brown bark, hoary or rusty tomentose branches; leaves alternate, exstipulate, bipinnatifid, secondary lobes entire or again lobed, lanceolate, acute to acuminate at apex, margin slightly recurved, glabrous above, densely silky beneath; petiole 2-6 cm, flowers irregular, orange, racemes, solitary or several together in axil of a bracts, on short leafless braches of old stems; perianth irregular, segments-4 at first, cohering valvately in a cylindric tube, dilated at base, often with free, recurved tips; stamens-4, shorter than and inserted on perianth segments, anthers erect, 2-celled, adnate, hypogynous glands or scales-4, alternating with stamens; ovary 1-celled, stipitate, style slender, orange, long, terminal, ovules solitary or many in 2-series; fruit oblique, coriaceous, follicle, brown; seeds 1 or 2, flattened, winged.
