Annual, prostrate or erect, robust, hispid herb, clothed with long, yellowish crisped hairs; 20-35 cm high, often branched from the base; leaves opposite, superposed, variable, dark green or reddish above, white-villous beneath, elliptic or ovate-oblong with oblique bases, dentate, toothed or serrulate, nerves distinct; stipules minute, linear, caducous; petiole distinct; cyathia numerous, many flowered in axillary, capituliform cymes; involucres minute, campanulate, lobes acute, hairy; glands small, narrow or obsolete, globose, without perceptible, minute limb; stamens included; ovary exserted, 3-lobed, glabrous, style short, deeply bifid; capsule of cocci globose, small, 3-lobed, compressed, appressed pubescent; seeds ovoid, acute, 4 angled, shallowly transversely rugose, pale brown.
