Perennial, large shrubs; stem terete, glabrous, green; leaves alternate, ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, subacute or obtuse at apex, cuneate at base, entire or sinuately lobed, glabrous above, pubescent beneath; cyathia in terminal, dichotomous, lax cymes; bracts foliaceous, oblanceolate, acuminate, bright red or occasionally light yellow; involucral lobes fimbriate; glands orange-yellow or red lobes; male floers naked, many, represented by single pedicillate, stamen without floral envelope; female flower-1, long pedicellate raising the ovary, much exserted; perianth minute, 3-lobed; ovary 3-lobed, 3-ovuled, glabrous or minutely hairy; seeds ovoid-subglobose, sometimes quadrangular, dark grey. |
