Perennial shrubs; roots tuberous; leaves alternate, long petiolate, digitately lobed, lobes oblong- obovate or oblanceolate, 10-20 cm, across, acuminate at apex, shortly decurrent at base; glaucous and minutely puberulons on veins beneath; stipules ovate-deltoid; flowers in axillary or terminal racemes; tepals -5, petaloid, lanceolate, imbricate, connate at base; stamens-10 in 2 whorls, subexerted, anthers oblong, filaments filiform; disc flat or 10-lobed, pistalloids short, columnar; ovary globose, 3-locular, 3-ovuled, stigma subsessile, massive or repeatedly branched, thin folded; capsules ellipsoid, 6-winged, dehiscing into 2 valves.
