Annual, slender, erect, much branched, glabrous herbs, reaching up to 50 cm high; leaves broadly elliptic to obovate, membranous, acute at both ends, nerves 4-5 pair, very obscure; petioles very short; stipules membranous, lanceolate, acuminate; pedicels much shorter than leaves; flowers small, clustered in leaf axils, tepals 6 in 2-series, broadly obovate or oblong, obtuse or subacute; male flowers numerous, white; stamens 3; filaments connate below, free above, recurved; disk glands stellately lobed; female flower soliatary, green, larger; ovary 6-lobed; styles 3, very short, forked into subulate, reflexed arms; stigmas obtuse; capsules very small, 3-valved, coriaceous; seeds minute with irregular ribs, somewhat 4-angled. |
