Perennial herb, rhizomatous, glabrous; stem erect, somewhat succulent, woody at base, stem, stipules, petioles and leaves contain cysteliths; stipules caducous, green, brownish when dry, oblong, longitudinally, 2-ribbed; petiole variable in length; lamina obovate, papery, 3-veined, at the base, adaxial surface with 2- interrrupted, white grooves, base broadly cuneate or subrounded, margins obscurely dentate, apex mucronate; inflorescence in pairs, capituliform; male flowers: perianth petaloid, 5-lobed; stamens-4, pistallode conical or oblong; female flowers: subsessile, perianth persistent, lobes-3, unequal, sometimes spurred; ovary straight, conic, stigma sessile, penicillate; achene ovoid, compressed. |
