Small or large, spreading tree; branchlets tomentose; leaves alternate, entire or irregularly 3-5 lobed, petioled, ovate-serrate, acuminate at apex, oblique and 3-nerved at base, scabrid above, pubescent beneath; stipules lanceolate, deciduous; male spikes cylindric, peduncled, pubescent; tepals-4, valvate; stamens-4, inflexed in bud; pistallode minute; female heads longer, peduncled, globose, tomentose, female flowers mixed with persistent bracts; peranth ovoid or tubular, 3-4 toothed, persistent; ovary included, stipitate, style undivided, elongate, subulate, ovule pendulous; achenes stipitate in small heads, surrounded by persistent bracts and perianth, fleshy below, crustaceous above, red shining.
