Plant Description

Tall, perennial, straight, up to 1 m high; rootstock large, ovoid, sessile, tubers sessile, thick, cylindric, pale yellow inside, with a smell of green mango; leaves in basal tufts; lamina up to 45 x 15 cm, oblong, lanceolate, acuminate at apex, narrowed to the base, glabrous; petiole as long as the leaf-blade; inflorescence up to 15 cm long; floral bracts 2-3 cm long, pale green or white, coma bracts pink; flowers about as long as the bracts; calyx minutely toothed, very thin, puberulous; corolla tube 2.5 cm long, white or pale yellow, funnel shaped, lobes oblong acute, upper longer, more concave, lateral staminodes oblong, petaloid, connate with short filament, anther cells-2, contiguous, spurred at base; ovary 3-celled, villous, many ovuled, style filiform, stigma 2-lipped, ciliate; capsules globose, membranous, 3-valved; seeds ovoid or oblong, arillate.
