Suberect perennial glabrous herb; Stem very short, thick or sometimes indistinct; leaves ensiform, densely imbricate, linear-lanceolate or oblanceolate, purplish underneath, sheathed at base; flowers many in dense cymes; spathes large, axillary, enclosing cymes, corolla white or lilac included in large spathes; capsules trigonous, enclosed in marcrescent perianth; locules one-seeded.
