Plant Description
Perennial cormatous herbs; rootstock sub-erect, stout, large; leaves peltate, pinnately nerved, beautifully marbelled, very large, glossy, broadly ovate, sagitately cordate, lobes rounded, sinus narrow, nerves 10-12 pairs, very stout, basal lobes incurved; petiole 80-100 cm tall; inflorescence in axillary clusteres; spathe almost equaling the spadix, about 15 cm long, pale yellow to green, slightly fragrant, tube of spathe half as long as the very long, linear-oblong, subtruncate cuspidate limb; flowers 1 or 2-sexual, sessile, enclosed in a green pr coloured spathe;1-sexual, neuter flowers present in between males and females; perianth scaly or absent; anthers 2-4 celled, dehiscing dorsally or by pores, pollen various; ovary sessile, incompletely 4-celled, style short or long, stigma subsessile, 3-4 cleft; fruit baccate as large as a cherry; seeds 1-few, often embedded in pulp. |
