Perennial, tuberous herbs, up to 1 m tall; tubers depressed, globose, 20-25 cm in diameter, dark brown; leaves large, 30-90 cm broad, radical 3-partite; leaflets spreading, pinnattisect, obovate or oblong, acute, many veined; petioles rough, dark green with blotches, warty; spathes campanulate, light red to pink; spadix cylindric, densely flowered, exserted or included, stout; appendage broad, short or long, amorphous; males and females contiguous, neutral absent; anthers 2-4 celled, oblong, sessile, pores apical, pale yellow; female inflorescence sessile on the ground; ovaries globose or ovoid, 1-4 celled, crowded, dark red, ovule solitary, subbasilar, anatropous, style long or short, stigma entire or 2-4 lobed; berries subglobose or obovoid; seeds exalbuminous.
