Perennial herb, with stonoliferous rhizome clothed with persistent, non-fibrous, brown scale leaves; stem slender leaves much shorter than to equaling the stam; spikes solitary, greenish, globose, spikelets ovate lanceolate, numerous, congested up to two third way up, sides sometimes with brownish dots and streaks; stamens 2 ; styles deeply 2-fid; Nut obovoid-ellipsoid, compressed.
