Plant Description

Pernnial herb, with a subterranean, woody, stoloniferous rhizome, clothed with fibrous remains of leaf sheaths; stem compressed trigonos, sometimes tortuous, base tuberous; leaves usually shorter than the stem, linear; inflorescence a compound umbel of short spikes, bracts 3, unequal, rays 3-6, pale brown; glumes tightly imbricating, reddish or deep brown, brown, broadly orate, muticous or mucronulate keeled, stamens 3, styles long exserted stigmas 3; anthers apiculate; nut obovoid, glabrous.
