Annuale or perennial herb, often with creeping base; stem usually decumbent at the base, compressed- trigonous; leaves several clustered at the base, few upwared also; inflorescence a globose, head like, simple umbel of spikes or a compound umbel with 4-6 ray; bracts 4-6, unequal, leafy, spikelets greenish or brown, lanceolate glumes sublaxly, imbricating, ovate, with a sanguineous band on both sides, keel green, 3-5 nerved, stames 2-3, nut obovid, darbrown.
